Italian Gradation System of Wines

VdT ( Vino da Tavola)
This gradation is generally used for  the table wine
Vino Da Tavola (VdT) is the lowest class of wine, fairly ordinary wines
Most is insipid, thin, weak, and acidic, the sort of wine that used to be sold in jugs and in tetrapacks.
This occurs mainly when producers use unapproved grape varieties or when the proportions don't
meet the DOC regulations.

VdT wine from Riona's portfolio, which is equally liked by our customers.

IGT – Indicazione Geografica Tipica
( typical geographic name).
It is a second level of the four classifications of Italian wine classification that ranks between the vino da tavola (vdt) and denominazione di origine controllata (doc ) categories. IGT wines are officially approved as being representative of their geographic region.
Labels may contain the region, the grape variety, and the vintage, but do not meet the requirements of the stricter DOC and DOCG designations.

Established in 1963 and implemented in 1966, the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) ("Controlled Denomination of Origin") is Italy 's third system of quality assurance label for wines
DOCs are defined by the geographic area of production for each wine, the varieties that can be used, the minimum alcohol content, the maximum yield and the specifications for aging .

DOCG – Denominazione di Origin Controllata e Guarantita.
(Denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin / place name)
The need for a DOCG identification arose when the DOC denomination was, in the view of many Italian food industries, given too liberally to different products.
It is the highest quality assurance label given to wines/various food products.
It comprises of more restrictive identification. Allowable yields are generally lower, and DOCG wines must pass an evaluation of a tasting committee before they can be bottled.
Qualitatively different from DOC wines.
DOCG wines are analyzed & tasted by the government licensed personnel before bottling.
DOCG bottled wines so as to prevent them from further manipulation they are sealed with a numbered government seal across the cap.
