About Enzo Mecella
Le Marche is a region characterized by hills and valleys, by the Apennines , descend gently to the sea. Here we can find one of the Historic winery of the Marche Region. The current owner, Mr.Enzo Mecella, the wine maker himself, has assumed the whole responsibility of his father after having implemented a corporate uprising. Enzo Mecella qualified in oenology, took over the family business in 1977 and ever since has been dedicated to producing high quality wine from classic local grape varieties, most notably, Verdicchio di Matelica. His quality research is linked with passion and competence focusing primarily on production of premium quality wines from native grapes. In an ever-changing industry, Mecella has somehow successfully managed to resist the hype and remain authentic in producing superior quality wines from varieties of local origin. For this Mr. Mecella has developed a very close link with his grape suppliers, helping them directly in the development and management of the vineyards.
Located some 60 kilometers west of the Adriatic seaport Ancona, the Mecella winery is blessed by the Marche region's good climate and most favorable soil. These factors lend themselves to the cultivation of the utmost quality vineyards, and Enzo has gone to great lengths to get the best from his vines, the development of which he watches over personally.
Enzo Mecella's Verdicchio di Matelica is a fantastic example of the region, including various selections, one of which in "barrique”. In fact he was the first oenologist in the Marches to introduce the use of barrique. And now he fanatically produces excellent Rosso Conero , refined in small barrels of French oak that has been highly appreciated in European competitions as well. |
